Hennepin County Behavior Health System of Care Presentation
Wednesday, October 21st, 3-4 PM
In February 2020, Hennepin County Human Services sponsored a two-day event to introduce our community to systems of care. It had been their hope that this event would be the catalyst for continued work in building our local children’s mental health system of care. Unfortunately, COVID-19 hit a couple of weeks later, and our collective attention got diverted in other directions.
Hennepin County Human Services-Behavioral Health has been doing work related to systems of care, and would like to update community partners/stakeholders on their efforts. Please attend this virtual meeting to hear about these efforts and have a conversation about how to build partnerships related to this work with parents, providers, schools and other community stakeholders.
We hope you can join us on Wednesday, October 21 from 3-4 PM via Zoom for this important presentation & conversation.

Funding & Event Opportunities
HENNEPIN COUNTY EXPANDED COMMUNITY SERVICES GRANT
Apply for funds to expand human services to low income communities and communities of color
This grant is funded by the federal Coronavirus Relief Fund established by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act). Through this grant, Hennepin County will fund expanded services to assist communities impacted by COVID-19, especially low income and communities of color. Non-profits and community organizations may apply for funds to provide additional or expanded human services to individuals that reside in Hennepin County and are in need of additional supports due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Services must be necessary due to the COVID-19 pandemic and funds may only be used for services provided through December 30, 2020.
The maximum grant award amount will be $50,000 per organization.

PACER CENTER’S FREE VIRUAL EVENT ON SUPPORTING CHILDREN’S MENTAL HEALTH
October 10, 2020
Join PACER Center for a special virtual event with Dr. Bravada Garrett-Akinsanya and PACER’s Children’s Mental Health Project staff on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Dr. Garrett-Akinsanya is a clinical psychologist and nationally recognized expert in mental health, diversity, and multiculturalism. At this free webinar, she will discuss strategies that families and professionals can use to support the emotional wellness of children and youth during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following Dr. Akinsanya’s presentation, PACER’s Children’s Mental Health Project staff will present a brief session featuring recorded interviews with members of PACER’s Youth Advisory Board on tips and strategies for support at school.

AVAILABLE SEATS FOR THE KENTE CIRCLE FALL CONFERENCE
October 29-30, 2020
The City of Minneapolis Division of Race & Equity is offering 30 seats to the Kente Circle Training Institute (KCTI) fall conference. From the event page: “At KCTI’s 9th Annual Fall Conference‘s will once again convene as a community and tap into how institutional racism attempts to stifle our collective genius and identity as a community. It is our intention to provoke conversation that will impact our awareness, propel us toward sustainable equity for communities of color and into action beyond complicity.”
These seats are available for community residents, mental and behavioral health providers, community healers and leaders, faith based leaders, and people who work with youth and their families.
Interested participants should:
- Live or work within the City of Minneapolis
- Be able to attend both days of the conference
