Grant Opportunity from The Minneapolis Foundation
The Minneapolis Foundation has announced a new funding opportunity: Starting March 15, the Minneapolis Foundation will begin accepting applications for Micro Grants from our Fund for Safe Communities.
The purpose of this grant fund is to help ensure that people have places to gather safely and resources available to promote connection and healing as we approach the anniversary of George Floyd’s death and the trial of a former Minneapolis police officer charged in the killing George Floyd.
These grants of $2,500 to $5,000 are designed to support gatherings & activities to address community trauma & promote wellness among youth and adult Minneapolis community members. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with decisions communicated to applicants within roughly two weeks.
Here are examples provided by the Minneapolis Foundation of activities they’re interested in supporting:
- Healing spaces that provide a safe place for community members to cope as the trial unfolds.
- Activities that promote wellness and help manage stress and trauma.
- Art, poetry, writing, and other creative actions that provide opportunities to process, reflect, and consider our path forward as a community.

Community Health Improvement Partnership Mini Grant Application (DEADLINE EXTENDED to 4 PM on March 23, 2021)
Community Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP) invites residents living in Hennepin County to apply for a mini grant of $250 to $500 to address racial disparities in community mental wellbeing & housing stability. A total of $3,000 is available in this round.
Application deadline and notification to those funded
The deadline has been extended to Tuesday March 23, 2021 at 4 PM. CHIP hopes to notify applicants selected for funding within 21 days of approval, depending on the number of applications received.
What CHIP will fund:
CHIP will fund individual community members or small teams who have local ideas & solutions to improve mental well-being and housing stability in your communities. People representing communities of color or indigenous populations are strongly encouraged to apply.
Why CHIP is doing this now:
The coronavirus pandemic & killing of George Floyd continue to create stress and trauma in many communities, particularly those of color. The Hennepin County Board declared racism a public health crisis. CHIP understands that people within community have great ideas and solutions to these issues.
Eligibility:
Only community members living in Hennepin County are eligible. Applicants must 18 years of age or older and have a social security number.
